Youth Guide System is...

For ymex.org members under 18 only!

The Youth Guide and Explorers system is a way to connect active members on ymex who have skills and smarts in media production and/or global issues with those who are seeking guidance in any of those areas. Members of ymex.org who stand out as leaders of the community will be notified that they have been selected and then given directions on how to apply. Explorers can find Youth Gudies that match their interests and ask them to be their guide—simple as that! Both Guides and Explorers score points for working together.

link to, embed, or generate the content that inspires them and discuss the global issues that are most important to them.
reflect on their abilities to create and examine media and use ymex.org and the linked resource as an inspiration and a platform for experimentation to try new tools and improve their skills.
expand their network of contacts and collaborators outside of their communities and their region of the world to have cross-cultural communication.
have a blast learning, experimenting, creating, and communicating!

Explorers

Explorers keep in mind a Guide has to approve of the partnership - and they will likely be in high demand. So even though a Youth Guide can have more than one Explorer to guide, it is up to them to decide how many they can accept at one time. Youth Guides keep in mind that your greatest challenge will be helping others learn how to do something rather than just telling them how to do it.

All involved keep in mind this can be a great way to connect with and learn from other young people around the world. We recommend Guides and Explorers communicate with the ymex message tool, but we'll let you decide what works best for you. Most important is that you keep the communication alive.

Guide...lines for Youth Guides:

By agreeing to be a ymex.org Youth Guide you will receive some benefits as well as assuming responsibility for those you are guiding.

The benefits include:

Scoring points for each Explorer you guide

Ability to do things that other members can't do like:

Being one of the judges in a contest

Opportunity to be chosen as the highlighted "Guide" story

Valuable leadership and volunteer experience

Good karma & a general happy feeling for helping others learn!

The responsibilities for gaining the benefits include:

Commenting and making suggestions site-wide on media and resources

Being available for questions and offering suggestions to your Explorers in a timely manner & talking to them as your peers (think mutual appreciation society here)

Guiding Explorers through a process in media production or knowledge-production on the issue for which you were chosen to be a Guide

Being familiar with the resources page & even consider making your own, new resource (as a lasting contribution that others can use)

Doing your best to help those you are guiding learn how to do something, not just tell them how to do it

Briefly reporting back to the ymex team what you experienced in being a Youth Guide

We're assuming if you made it to the level of being a Youth Guide, you will respect the privilege of being a leader and set a good example as a global citizen. But if there is any misconduct reported while you are guiding other members, the ymex.org team reserves the right to terminate your membership both on ymex.org and TakingITGlobal and bar you from registering again. Of course we will discuss the misconduct that was reported with you before taking any action. Refer to the ymex.org Guidelines to be reminded of our site's expectations for community participation.
