Democracy to me is freedom of speech. It is a system of a Government where i have the right to criticize or appreciate the policies of my Government openly without any consequences.

I agree. I think Democracy, if we're speaking of a type of political system, is in effect when you are truly free to speak your mind and share your views about what you think about your government and governments of other countries.  I think it is when elections happen truly by the people without fraud or interference. I am not sure what I think about the Electoral College system here in the US - that might mean the US does not have the ultimate type of democracy going on b/c something comes between us voters and who's elected. Correct me if I'm wrong on that. I also think democracy = equality for all citizens and residents in a country.

Democracy, meaning the "power of the people" (the majority), also needs to protect minority rights; its foundation is freedom, freedom to do as one pleases as long as not directly interferring with other individual's right to do the same. The rights, liberties and obligations that accompany a democractic system were mostly developed by the great minds of the Enlightment period (Rousseau, Descartes etc). But we almost always forget to include "freedom from social pressure" when discussing democracy; this is the most important of all to me, since i well know that one can live in a "democractic" country without being able to avoid the traditions, religions, fears of being gossiped about , and other medieval obstacles of this kind. That's why i chose Canada instead!

كما ارادها اليوناني ببساطة هو حكم الشعب . .. عندما يكون الشعب جاهل ..تكون المخرجات دمقراطية الحكم بأستغلال الجهل وعدم المعرفة
عندما تكون لدي الفرد القدرة على فهمها واستخدامها وممارستها بالطريقة التي يستفيد بها كفرد أستطيع ان اصنع التغير في كافة المجالات .
فالدمقراطية سلعة رائجة عند الدكتاتورين .. في حكم الشعب .. لعدم وجود التثقيف اللزم لها للفرد .. ولكن ما ان يمر الوقت حتى بدون الترويج لها والتعتيم حولها .. تفرض نفسها بقوة .. لكي تحقق ما اراد بها المشرع قديما وحديثا هي لعبة عادله ممتعة منصفة .. لها قوانينها .. من يتفهمها .... عن طريق فرد اراد ان يتقدم خطوة نحو الامام ...
الدمقراطية كفرد : هي كيف ان اتقبل الاخر افكرا واعمالا مع وجود حق النقد والتوجية والمشاركة الممارسة في كافة جوانب الحياة الاجتماعية والسياسية والاقتصادية

Democracy is the people coming together as one. Democracy is the freedom we benefit from. It is the way voices are heard and not silenced. It is the opposite of dictatorship. In addition, as the people stay strong and united, it grows and changes throughout the world. It is majority rules investing in policies and procedures to protect our freedoms

The freedom to choose. No matter what those in power say or do, it all comes down to one thing: everyone that has a vote, has a choice. One person. One vote. One choice- is there anything more powerful?
