Environment
What do Sudan, Afghanistan and Southern California have in common? They all suffer from water shortages. Water quality and access is one example of climate change. By 2050, 200 million people could be homeless by floods and drought. Sea levels are rising faster than ever (having risen by 20cm over the 20th century); in Asia, the homes of 94 million people could be flooded by the end of the century (DFID).

Poverty
What is killing 5 million children age 5 and younger? The answer is poverty. One billion people- one fifth of the world's population- lives on less than $1 US/day. People all over the world are developing innovative ideas to help tackle poverty by creating new ways to connect people who can give to those who need help. Individuals are finding that there are many ways to give, including donations of money and goods as well as time and expertise through volunteer and service opportunities.

Education
There are 115 million children of primary-school age who are not currently enrolled in school. Child labor, health, war, and lack of school buildings are a few reasons why children are not getting an education. Education for all is a UN Millenium Development Goal to have primary education for all children by 2015.

Migration
Technology, business, and transportation have made countries and cultures more interconnected. Jobs and education opportunities are motivating people to work in other countries in order to support themselves and their families back home. For other people, migration is not a choice. They are forced to leave by natural disasters, such as the Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina, or forced out of their homes as refugees of war.

Stereotypes
Fueled by popular media across the nation, stereotypes are no laughing matter - for making judgements of people of a certain race, background, or ethnicity before you get to know them is not just plain rude, it's also dangerous. Some of the most tragic events and genocides in history have been triggered from discrimatory thoughts about a certain group of people. Here is the place to discuss this issue.
